Media intelligence through investigation and experimentation

The Mind Control Division is the intelligence arm of Blaine Kyllo's Solo Corps. This department conducts investigations and experiments into media culture, which includes, but is not limited to, writing on television, video games, and books.

I’m currently writing on video games ("Trigger Happy" in the Georgia Straight and "Joystuck" in FFWD Weekly), consumer technology ("Techno Logic" in the Georgia Straight), and television ("Remote View" appears at CinemaSpy.ca).

Can Epic Mickey make the famous mouse cool again? · 9 December 2010, 12:03

Published yesterday at CBC.ca is my feature on Disney’s Epic Mickey, which incorporates a couple of conversations I had with game designer Warren Spector.

Walt Disney claimed that it all started with a mouse, but it actually started with a rabbit. Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit, not Mickey Mouse, was the animator’s first character design.
