This morning, The Globe & Mail published by review of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

As much fun as it may be to embody a powerful Jedi in full command of the Force, I found the game lacking.

I still get a chill when I see that title card: “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.” The brassy fanfare that follows, with the Star Wars logo, has great power over me. Being able to channel the Force and wield a light sabre goes a long way. But with The Force Unleashed II it doesn’t go far enough.

The Globe & Mail has published my latest game review, of Tim Shafer’s Costume Quest.

I spent a good chunk of Halloween playing this, and really enjoyed it. Just a hint of Psychonauts there.

What would you do if your twin was kidnapped by candy-thieving monsters? If you’re a precocious pre-teen in a world created by game designer Tim Shafer, you go after the baddies, because only you have the right to terrorize your sibling.

The Georgia Straight has dropped my review of Fallout: New Vegas online a few days before it gets printed in the pages.

It’s almost exactly like playing Fallout 3. And that’s a good thing.

If I could only use one word to describe Fallout: New Vegas, it would be more. You name it, there’s more of it. Imagine 2008’s Fallout 3 with more weapons, more places to explore, and more creatures to contemplate, and you’ll have a sense of what to expect from New Vegas. It’s a lot more Fallout.

Over at the Globe & Mail is my review of Ninja Theory’s latest epic adventure game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.

A spirited adventure game, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West benefits from rich, engaging characters and a compelling story, but suffers from some minor control missteps. The story takes place hundreds of years in our future. It’s a war-ravaged, post-apocalyptic setting, and – as expected given the title of the game – slavery is an overarching theme here.
