At CinemaSpy we’re running a two-week series on the Stargate franchise, and the first of a bunch of interviews with the cast of Stargate Atlantis is this one with Jewel Staite who came to fame as the beloved Kaylee from Joss Whedon’s Firefly.
Born in White Rock, B.C., and raised in the Lower Mainland, she’s come home to join the cast of Atlantis, and she’s very happy to be back. As for Kaylee, Staite told me that she “wouldn’t say no to reprising that role.”

A few months back I had the chance to pay a visit to Vancouver’s Bridge Studios, home of the Stargate franchise.
Along with tours of in-production Atlantis and on-standby SG-1 sets, we were granted interviews with the cast of Atlantis and with Stargate co-creator Brad Wright, who’s first feature, Stargate: Continuum, releases on DVD and Blu-ray tomorrow.
I conducted a follow-up phone interview with Brad a couple of weeks later, to talk with him about how shooting in Vancouver has changed in the past fifteen years. Two versions of the interview are now available. This one, published in last week’s Georgia Straight and this one now online at CinemaSpy.

Video games
Another week in L.A., another E3.
This year’s edition of the video game trade show was a bit underwhelming, although there is always something interesting to note about the press briefings staged by the Big Three – Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony.
In this week’s Georgia Straight I reflect on the first couple of days of E3 2008.
As significant as what was said, it seems, was what was not said.

Microsoft is hoping to snatch some market share from Apple’s iPod media players with its Zune device, now available in Canada. I consider the Zune in my “Techno Logic” column in this week’s Georgia Straight.
