So, C comes into the bathroom this morning and asks me if Duran Duran sang the song “The Final Countdown,” and just like that, the title track from the Swedish cheese-metal band, Europe, is in my head for the rest of the day.

Thanks, C.

The best use of a song on television, by the way, is this song as the opening music to GOB’s magic act on Arrested Development.

I’ve been listening to the new Modest Mouse album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, for a few weeks now, and it’s great.

But I remember on the first couple of listens, I didn’t think this effort had a breakout pop single like “Float On” was, but I’ve changed my mind.

“Dashboard,” the first single, comes close, if the way the song has stuck in my head for the past few days is any indication.

The jangling guitar, courtesy of Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr, who joined Modest Mouse for this album (and will be on the subequent tour) is a bit disconcerting, given that previously, Modest Mouse guitars tended to be much less defined.

Gotta say, though, that We Were Dead is one great CD.

I have no idea why “Heterogeneity is meat 77” is in my head, but I woke up with it unfurled like a banner headline, so it must have come from the last dream I was in as I awoke.

Also, starring in that dream were the actor who was Zack in Saved By the Bell and Tom Bosley (who appeared half naked in a post-coital state; no idea how I know that, I just do). They were in separate scenes, though.

This is the stuff that comes out of my untethered brain.

Commence shuddering.
