Season two of Slings & Arrows premiered on Showcase last night. I’ve missed it so.

As I wrote in my review of the DVD release of season one, Slings proves that Canadian television can be great.

My only concern is that Showcase, despite giving the language warning before the show, still felt they needed to edit out the “fucks,” which really broke the rhythm of the dialogue and interrupted the show. Bad decision.

Word last week that Clover Studio, developer of Okami and the just-released God Hand, is being shuttered by Capcom.

This is sad news, as Clover was essentially an indie label inside Capcom, which may have lost money, but was actually changing how games were thought about and played. Hell, Okami is a game about ecology, if you think about it.

Games Industry’s Rob Fahey wrote the best editorial on what the dissolution of Clover means in terms of games and culture.

Nothing too troubling today, except that my sojourn week has come to an end, and I’ll be back to the grind on Sunday evening, monitoring the news and prepping a front page for Monday morning.

Fitting, then, that the weather – which has been atypically sunny and dry – is set to turn on Sunday.

We knew the rains would come, eventually.

My next Channel Changer publishes tomorrow. It’s a piece I wrote about the new television series, Heroes, after having watched the first two episodes.

I’ve since watched the third episode, and while I’m now worried that the show is going to derail, I’m willing to keep riding the bandwagon for now.

Just like all the other geeks out there watching the show, Hiro is my favourite. The actor who plays him, Masi Oka, is also a digital artist with ILM who has worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, War of the Worlds, and the latest (chronologically) three Star Wars films. See? The actor, like the character he plays, is a geek like us. No wonder he’s so popular.

The column will be teased from the myTELUS homepage all day tomorrow and Saturday. A permanent link to the column is here.
