Lots of stuff written by me in today’s Georgia Straight, in part because it’s a high-tech special issue.

In “Trigger Happy,” I look at the new game, Turok, created by Vancouver development studio Propaganda Games. There is a main column about the game’s production, as well as a review of the game itself.

“Techno Logic” is a look at CBC’s plethora of podcasting initiatives and Grant Lawrence’s CBC Radio 3 Podcast in particular.

And, finally, I’ve got two pieces in the latest edition of Georgia Straight Living. One is a look at how TiVo can change your television viewing habits and the second is a collection of eco-gadgets.

BLAINE KYLLO
Your take on the settlement offer. Have you voted?

SETH MACFARLANE
The vote has taken place, the strike is over.

BLAINE
The strike is over, but you haven’t ratified the contract yet.

SETH
That’s true.

BLAINE
How are you voting on the contract?

SETH
At the moment I’m probably going to vote yes, because I think there is not a lot more that can come out of this particular cycle, would be the best way to put it. It’s very important that it happened, and I think the writers were able to flex a lot of muscle, and send a message. Is it a perfect contract? No. Absolutely not.

BLAINE
Harlan Ellison is pissed. He’s raving.

SETH
Really? That’s so unusual that Harlan Ellison would be angry about something. He’s kind of a psychotic, though, isn’t he?

BLAINE
He thinks the young people sold out.

SETH
It’s like saying Hitler’s really mad about something. I don’t know what he’s so upset about. I wouldn’t use Harlan Ellison as the barometer. While a very gifted writer, and I am a fan, the guy’s nuts.

BLAINE
What is the monkey pointing in the closet to you?

SETH
An easy way out of a scene.

BLAINE
It’s just a device?

SETH
Completely.

BLAINE
Why use your regular voice for Brian?

SETH
Originally it just seemed to be the closest opposite to the Peter voice that I could come up with. And there’s always one character, from a writing standpoint when you’re producing a show, that you model after yourself in a lot of ways. And Brian is the closest.

BLAINE
The closest to Seth?

SETH
Yeah, absolutely.

BLAINE
Has J.J. Abrams called you about his Star Trek film?

SETH
He has not. I know nothing about it.

BLAINE
Are you going to chase him down?

SETH
I’ll reserve judgment. It could be great, it could be terrible, I have no idea what to expect.

BLAINE
How’s the broadway musical coming?

SETH
It’s still on the drawing board.

BLAINE
And the novel?

SETH
The novel is non-existent. I don’t know who you’ve been talking to.
