My “Techno Logic” column this week is a roundup of the major announcements made by Apple at this year’s Macworld trade show. The piece published today in the Georgia Straight.

What may be the bigger news, though, is that Vancouver’s downtown shopping mall, Pacific Centre, seems to have jumped the gun in announcing that the Apple Store is going to be a new tenant, later this spring.

Just in time for 2010, eh?

Season four of Lost is underway. So far it seems to be back on track, after nearly derailing in season three. Switching from flashbacks to flash forwards is one reason for the return from the brink.

Somebody must have been studying Hitchcock.

My look at Lost, season four, is the topic of this week’s “Remote View” column over at CinemaSpy.ca.

I don’t know why, but BioWare’s excellent Mass Effect was good enough to receive four nominations in this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards, it was not, apparently, good enough for a Game of the Year nod.

Shocking, says I, and bordering on insulting.

Read more in this week’s “Trigger Happy” column over in the Georgia Straight.

And while you’re there, read my review of The Orange Box, which includes Portal, one of the best games of 2007.

Parliament is back in session, and we may see a new copyright bill being tabled by industry minister Jim Prentice soon. If he continues to ignore the outcry for consultation with all aspects of Canadian stakeholders – instead of the American entertainment lobby – we may be in for a shock.

The pending copyright reform is the subject of this week’s “Techno Logic” column over at the Georgia Straight.

If you’re interested in participating in the mobilizing effort to get fair copyright for Canada, jump over to Michael Geist’s blog for some tips (this post is a good summary of the complex issues). And search for the Facebook groups, too, so you can join the 40,000+ voices there.

Feist, Sidney Crosby, Sarah Polley, David Cronenberg. The list of great Canadians in arts and culture (yes, hockey is culture, thank you very much) is long, varied, and worthy of pride.

It’s true in video games, too, and that is the angle I’ve taken in this week’s “Trigger Happy,” which looks at Mario Strikers Charged, SOCOM Navy Seals Tactical Strike, and Everyday Shooter.

In the sidebar this week is a review of the new television show, jPod, based on the novel by Douglas Coupland.

It’s all in this week’s Georgia Straight.
